5th March - Open Forum

Food Systems Transformation, Women Leadership and Peace Building: Celebrating women as change-makers transforming food systems

On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2026, the International Year of Women Farmers, and the launch of the Conscious Food Systems Alliance Switzerland Hub, Climate Bridges warmly invites you to a full day of events, including a formal UN consultation of food systems (registration for this will be shared separately), the Annual General Assembly and an Open Forum including a series of dialogues, circles of trust, mindfulness sessions and an evening public conference to celebrate our global community of climate leaders and highlight the role of women as change-makers transforming food systems. Following the insightful discussions, you are also invited to share food and drinks during an apéro dinatoire, to connect from heart to heart and continue the conversation with other participants at an interpersonal level.

Why join?

Across the world, women play a vital role in producing food, sustaining rural livelihoods, and preserving agricultural knowledge. Women are leading the transition towards a more regenerative form of agriculture, scaling up nature-based solutions, and enhancing climate resilience, creating triple win opportunities for climate, people and nature. Resilient food systems and societies are also essential to ensure stability and peace around the world.

This panel brings together women farmers, local leaders, and practitioners from different regions across the world, to share lived experiences, perspectives, and solutions. Through dialogue and exchange, we will explore the realities women face in food production today, identify common threads across contexts, and reflect on what needs to change—at policy, societal, and systemic levels—to support more just and resilient food systems. The discussion is part of Climate Bridges’ broader commitment to radical collaboration and inclusive dialogue, bridging local and global perspectives and amplifying the voices of those shaping food systems transformation.

Red carnation flower

There are many examples in history showing that people can mobilise collectively for peace and win. This event is organised in the spirit of “Women Uniting for Peace - People, Planet & Prosperity” - reaching unity while valuing diversity and inspired by the peaceful carnation revolution in Portugal on April 25, 1974. This historic event got its name from the fact that almost no shots were fired, and from restaurant worker Celeste Caeiro who offered carnations to soldiers when the population took to the streets to celebrate the end of the dictatorship. Other demonstrators followed suit and placed carnations in the muzzles of guns and on soldiers' uniforms.

The intent for this day is to activate our networks and communities all levels, local, national and global with a diversity of initiatives united around the same values, with the vision of many flowers of different colours all creating a powerful field of meadows.
