Open Letter - Urgent Call for Peace

Open letter - Urgent Call for Peace

To: The UN Security Council, Heads of States and Governments

We are a group of women and men from around the world coming together as stewards for peace, as we are deeply concerned about the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Palestine, the horrific worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza and the potential escalation of conflict in other countries.

So many people have been displaced several times in the last seven months, with nowhere safe to go, and without access to food, water, energy, basic sanitation, health and medicine. More than thirty five thousand Palestinians have been killed, including a majority of women and children. Many children have been orphaned, some with no living family members, many have suffered major burns or amputations, mothers are experiencing the most unbearable of losses helplessly witnessing the death of their children. Over the past months, we’ve witnessed the mass-scale starvation of a whole population, on top of the ongoing bombardments, displacement and destruction.

In early May 2024, we witnessed the horrifying escalation in Gaza, when the Israeli forces invaded the city of Rahaf, which was for 1.4 million displaced Palestinians, the last refuge and safe zone. Now 1.7 million Palestinians are subjected to an intensifying military incursion with catastrophic consequences.

Hostages are still not free. There are also prisoners of war. Their families are deeply worried and traumatized. People all over the world are dividing each other, when in reality we are one and the same. We cannot tolerate further escalation; When so many human beings suffer, the whole of humanity suffers.

We must find the courage and strength to overcome the divides, reconnect to our common humanity and restart the dialogue for unity and peace. We are all part of the same family.

Trusting humanity can heal humanity.

Together we are calling for an immediate ceasefire, the unconditional release of all hostages in Gaza and Israel, an unconditional flow of much needed life-saving aid, and the restart of meaningful, equitable and humane peace negotiations through diplomatic talks and us collectively nurturing the conditions to facilitate this existential process of peace.
